Bluelink Bluetooth Music Receiver Review

Bluelink Bluetooth Music Receiver

I own this bluetooth receiver as well as the Sony. They both work great and this one was cheaper. I use them both to stream music from my Iphone to my stereo. One thing to note is that this one has the AC plug built into the device where as the Sony uses an AC to DC adapter with cable. That can be good or bad depending on what you use it for. I plug it into the switched outlet on the back of my stereo and it is really nice that it is hidden, out of the way, and only on when my stereo is on.

Sony BRAVIA KDL55NX810 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz 3D-Ready LED HDTV, Black Review

Sony BRAVIA KDL55NX810 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz 3D-Ready LED HDTV, Black
Average Reviews:

Just received this new Sony and it is everything Sony claims it to be. Absolutely the best picture I have seen in a LCD TV and better than my 3 yr old 46XBR4 that had the fluorescent backlighting. This NX has a dynamic(local dimming) edge lit LED, and the contrast and blacks are excellent. The 3D is stunning with little ghosting, even with 3D set for max effect. I coupled this NX810 with Sony's new Blu-RAy S770, and the picture is stunning, as good or better than any theater, and better than my previous LCD TV combo. I have noticed that the NX810 could be brighter. I find myself using the 'vivid" picture setting during the day as the TV display was darker than desired when using standard or custom and lacked bright colors. As such, I can not use the cinema scene setting or theater mode during daylight and some DVDs with lots of 'dark scenes' do not show well with simulated 3D during daylight periods
My one complaint is that the sound is not what you would expect from a $3K new Sony. The sound is a cheap sound(tinny),and did not meet by expectations since it has 3 speakers built-in. I ended up adding on the $359 NX810 optional stand (Bushin)(SU-B550S) that includes a better 2.1 sound system to compensate. This one option proved to be worth every penny as the audio is now full and deep.
I am still playing with the video settings, but I have noticed that imperfections of the incoming signal are much easier to discern than my previous LCD. In fact on the same broadcast, a bad shimmer in the background, will go away and a brilliant fine detail picture comes on when they shift cameras like in a news broadcast
This NX has wired Ethernet and wireless connectivity, and the streamed HD video from Amazon is excellent. In order for you to stream Dolby 5.1 audio, you must select 'audio system' on speakers to output 5.1 to your surround sound amp or you will only get PCM. The NX has LED edge lighting but with local dimming and it results is great contrast. Not sure if the HX909 full LED array backlighting would result in a much better picture.
I also am very happy with the 3D effects. Playing a movie made for 3D, gives you great 3D depth effect, almost as good as the theater. Using simulated 3D on my Avatar Blu-Ray disk resulted in good 3D but the depth was not as good as the movie theater. Trying simulated 3D on sports also added depth to many scenes, especially the football if the camera angle was right.
You can buy this TV with a free bundle (various vendors offer the free bundle) that includes everything you need for 3D (transmitter + 2 glasses), plus the bundle gives you a 3D Alice + HDMI cable. So, with the bundle you get everything the LX900 has AND with better picture since the LX is only edge LED with no local dimming.
Overall very happy with this purchase. My only complaint is the "tinny" sound-probably because the speakers are on the backside of the TV and directed either backwards or down as compared to my old XBR4 which had great audio quality and had speakers on either side

Philips SWW1800/27 Wireless HDTV Link Review

Philips SWW1800/27 Wireless HDTV Link
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Philips SWW1800/27 Wireless HDTV Link actually works as advertised, transmitting the output of up to four high definition devices across a room without wires. It is simple to install and requires absolutely zero configuration. Plug it in and it works.
Philips gets bonus points for including an HDMI cable. This the first high definition device I've used that actually comes with one. I hope other manufacturers follow their lead.
I tested the device in my home, transmitting the output of a high definition camcorder and a few other devices approximately thirty feet across my living room to a plasma television.
Below are my observations. I am happy to answer additional questions left in the comment section.
DISTANCE:
This is strictly designed to be a "short haul" device. It does not have the range of a cordless phone or wireless internet router, but it does accomplish the goal of allowing video components to be located dozens of feet away from a television. It worked fine in the largest room in my home, but it did not work when I located the transmitter in an adjacent room.
CONNECTORS:
There are four inputs on the transmitter, two HDMI and two component. Note that the two component video inputs do not have digital audio connectors, so only stereo analog audio can be transmitted back to the television on those ports. Digital audio transmits perfectly through the two HDMI connectors.
IMAGE QUALITY
I tested the device with a number of components, including an HDV camcorder connected over component video cable, an upconverting DVD player connected via HDMI, and a Flip Camera connected via HDMI. Everything looked great at a thirty foot transmit distance with no noticeable degradation.
VIDEO GAME COMPATIBILITY
The Philips Wireless HDTV link does not recompress video so there are no noticeable delays between a button press and a reaction on screen.
The device will only support consoles that transmit over component video or HDMI. Newer Xbox 360s and Playstation 3 consoles have HDMI ports. The Wii does not support HDMI, but its optional component cable will work. The original Xbox, Gamecube, and some Playstation 2 consoles can work via optional component cables but older consoles will not work and will need to be directly connected to the television.
TELEVISION COMPATIBILITY
This device requires the television have an available HDMI port. Many older HDTVs are lacking HDMI connectors so you'll want to ensure your television supports HDMI before purchasing.
NO AV DEVICE CONTROL
This is strictly a video transmitter, it will not pass commands to your components. It also adds another remote control to your collection.
CONFIGURATION
There isn't any. Select the device and it shows up on the screen if the transmitter is in range. It simply transmits whatever the device wants to send to the television.
CONCLUSION
This is an expensive device but it works as advertised. In some cases it may be cheaper to hire a professional to install your home theater system and hide its associated cables. But if that's not an option this device will accomplish the task. It works beautifully and is surprisingly simple to set up.

Next Generation Remote Control Extender Review

Next Generation Remote Control Extender

Next Generation Remote Control Extender
I had a need to remote control my TiVo HD and DVD player that are located inside a closed cabinet. I tried to use an inexpensive RF remote control but I hated the remote and there is a significant amount of lag when I push the button on the remote. Sometimes the component didn't register the command at all. Very frustrating.
I did a little more research on how to control my components that were hidden inside this cabinet and I ran across this Next Generation Remote Control Extender. At first I thought this was the same thing as those stupid X-10 Pyramid remote extenders or IR repeaters, but as I read more about it I realized this was something different. In short, this system will allow you to convert your standard remote into a powerful RF remote. This is a very unique solution.
I used this system to convert my favorite Logitech/Harmony 676 universal remote into a RF remote that can control my TiVo HD and DVD player while hidden out of sight in my cabinet. It totally works and there no lag from when I push a button to the action on the screen. Love it!!!

LG AN-WL100W Wireless Media Kit Review

LG AN-WL100W Wireless Media Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the LG 60pk750 a few weeks ago and love it. I have it wall mounted in a location which is VERY difficult to run wires to. Until now, I have had it temporarily hardwired to my DVR with exposed cable until I found a better way. Enter the "LG AN-WL100W Wireless Media Kit". I was skeptical about wireless HD, but decided to give it a try after reading the small amount of online reviews. Really not much info available about this product, but did find useful info at Crutchfield and home theater magazine. I hope that this review informs people about this product better.
Functionality:
Before I mounted my TV back on the wall, I decided to test the results through the AN-WL100W (smart, huh). I was actually very surprised... the picture was really good. I watched Discovery HD for a while, flipping between hardwired and wireless and saw NO difference. At times I thought I saw picture degradation, but I would flip back to the hardwired and realized that the source was the problem (broadcast HD is hit or miss). Don't have my Bluray yet, so this is the best reference I had. Sound was never a problem, though I was just using the TVs tiny speakers- I can say that it sounded just like the hardwired. For this test, the head unit was about 4 feet away, directly behind the TV, behind a wall in my garage(drywall-studs-plywood-drywall).
Later, I mounted my TV with the wireless dongle connected and in place, and put the headunit where I planned to keep it, in a AV closet approximately 10 feet from the center of the TV, to the right front of the TV. This time I could not get sufficient signal strength to get picture. I could not believe it! The total distance from the headunit to the dongle was about 12 feet- line-of-sight obstacles were a regular interior wall (drywall, studs, drywall), and the TV itself (since the dongle is mounted on the back). The screen would show that it saw the headunit and was tryng to establish picture, but signal strength was too low.
Form:
The product itself is really nice looking- no question. However, I have a huge issue with the dongle size and installation. The dongle is TOO BIG. The AN-WL100W was custom designed for these LG TVs, yet they still managed to allow the dongle to be the tallest protrusion on the back of the set! WTH?!? This is a problem if you are wall-mounting (why else would you buy this product if you were using a stand on a cabinet?). Similarly, the HDMI and control cables which plug into the back of the TV are not designed with 90 angles, so they get all bent and crimped up against the wall too. With so much design going into the electronics of the AN-WL100W, it simply blows my mind that they didn't make wall-mounting a slam-dunk by making the dongle just a bit thinner and supplying cables with 90 bends!
Summary:
I was hoping that going wireless (and paying $300) would simplify my location situation. I also liked the fact that it had nice IR repeaters and integrated switching controlled by the TV. The signal quality was good at very short ranges, but was useless at about 12 feet with a reasonable obstruction. I don't know how practical this is, because I think most people shelling out $300 for this are buying it because they might have an obstruction or distance situation. I would have kept fiddling with it if it hadn't been for the wall-mounting issues mentioned earlier. This sealed the deal for me to return it.

Sony EZWT100 S-AIR Signal Transmitter - Black Review

Sony EZWT100 S-AIR Signal Transmitter - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Installed this into my STR-DN1000 and tried to link it with a brand new AIR-SA10 and they would just not recognize each other. The wireless strength was zero and the main unit would not pair with the sub. After 30 mins on live chat with Sony they suggested that I unplug the receiver for a minute and try again. Amazingly that worked and the SA10 immediately linked with the receiver without pairing. The install instructions do say to unplug the receiver before installing this transmitter. That is a major deal for me with the way my components are installed into my built-ins, however, it turned out to be the critical missing piece of the puzzle. The instructions don't say 'if you don't do this you will have hours of frustration' so I am writing that here to try to save others from injuring their heads on their walls.
.
Now that it's working, the total investment for the transmitter and the SA10 seems like a good deal when compared to other wireless speakers available at this time, plus the SA10 allows you to switch between whatever feeds are available on your main unit without walking back to the main unit to change it.

I bought this after a good deal of research. I wanted something that set flush on my mp3 players. I didn't want something dangling --- that's why I didn't want cords anymore. I also wanted something easy to use. There's not a lot written about this unit on the Web but it looked worth a try to me.
When I got it I charged it. Took less than two hours to get a full charge. It charges via USB -- has no AC. I read the instructions and, while poorly written, it did more or less lead me in the right direction.
A bit of an annoyance is that the on/off switch is on the side that faces the player. So be sure and turn it on first. It would be nice if it was on the outside.
After a bit of trouble paring I got the knack of it and now use it with all three of my mp3 players, which range from one very old Creative Nano to a slightly newer but still old GPX to a new Creative Zen X-f1. I am paring it with my Jabra Extreme, which I use for my phone.
Now, I listen mostly to audio books so I don't need stereo or great sound quality. If I did, I would certainly get another headset. But the Nolan transmitter is great and I highly recommend it.

Bad Amazon experience with this purchase. The unit worked for one day, but the polarity was reversed. It was provided by this seller as new, but it was used. Scratches on plastic pieces, and they should have cleaned the sneeze splatter off of the display prior to applying the "this should make you think it's new" protective plastic coating. Incredible. This is the second time I bought this wireless TV adapter. This Atlona one was only $129.95 from Electronics-depot. It is the same gadget as one called Warpia except the plastic case is white. It worked great streaming laptop to TV downstairs so I bought it for my second TV upstairs. The video can be choppy if used with Atom based netbook, but it works flawlessly with the core 2 duo based HP notebook. It uses the processor horsepower for the video driver so the comp. must be strong enough to handle it. As long as it is used with the strong computer the video and audio will stream nicely to the TV. Sony BRAVIA KDL55HX800 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz 3D-Ready LED HDTV, Black Review

Sony BRAVIA KDL55HX800 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz 3D-Ready LED HDTV, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, I'm not a biased reviewer. Everything I review, I do it for the sake of truthness.
By the way, I own the 40 inch of this model.
I have owned and do own SEVERAL TVs, ranging from brands and types. I am a HUGE audio/video phile, and I always have been since the introduction of high definiton teleivision. I'm going to break this review down into a few parts.
SETUP + BUILD QUALITY
- Pretty straight forward. Easy to assemble, but the back semi circular black piece doesn't like to stay in place and doesn't feel super high quality. The stand however feels sturdy especially once the TV is screwed into it. This is an easy part, it's four screws which is nothing difficult. Now, onto the TV. Compared to other Sony models I've owned or do own (S5100, XBR4, SXRD XBR2, Trinitron 34 inch CRT, EX 46 inch), this TV feels VERY high quality. The bezel feels very well made and produced, unlike a few Sonys I've seen before. The screen also feels very high quality, and is not super reflective, unless there's a lot of light. Then, it gets interesting. The remote is set up decently, but may be a little confusing to some. Again, straightforward. Upon turning on the TV you'll enter a setup screen etc, you know the rundown. You will be prompted to set up an internet connection, and when you do you'll have tons of interesting aps to keep you busy for a while. Netflix and the Golf channel are to name a few. The menu system is also similar to that of the Playstation 3, and is VERY easy to navigate. Good rating here Sony.
FEATURES + INPUTS
Pretty short category. FOUR HDMI ports! That's pretty decent. You'll have standard Component, Composite, Tuner, and PC inputs. All put very well on the back or side of the TV. 3D TV, and it can simulate 3D for ANY video, so it isn't just 3D capable, it's 3D ready. In addition it also has the internet aps I briefly spoke about and has all the basic features and inputs you want from a TV. Menu is very easy to use.
PICTURE QUALITY
Okay, the big category now! Before I begin speaking about this, I ALWAYS let my TVs burn in for 80+ hours of use, and then I have them professionaly calibrated, NOT BY BEST BUY. Best Buy calibration is total garbage - I speak from experience. I pay a seasoned professional who does a fantastic job with all the latest ISF gadgetry. Out of the box, SD picture is decent. It's not as good as say a top CRT, but the SD is comparable to other TVs in this category of Edge Lit LED. It's good, but not fantastic. Some channels look better than others. Out of the box the HD picture is where this set shines. It gives some very deep blacks and showcases a vast array of detail. It's sharp, and there is VERY little motion blur. The CineMotion setting I set to off. Detail is equally impressive in light/dark scenes, and all HD sources look very, very good. I use the Playstation 3 as a Blu Ray player and I play all sorts of console games such as God of War 3, Mass Effect 2 (360), Call of Duty, etc. I also watch a massive amount of blu rays from comedies to action, and the picture never fails. I compared this to a LX9 XBR (Brand new), and I thought the picture quality was VERY similar. I forced the guys at the Sony Style store to move these two sts side by side with the exact same inputs. The XBR 9 only had VERY SLIGHTLY better detail in darker scenes (splitting hairs), but that may have been due to other reasons. Overall, quality is wonderful. Again, motion blur even in dark scenes is not evident. I like to test a certain scene in the game "Resistance 2", to showcase any motion blur, and even when only 120Hz is turned on there is very little or no blur. By testing the Bravia 3 engine, my calibrator found the engine was powerful and moving images where showcased very well. We were suprised, because most of my Sony sets in the past failed during this test.
However, I DO NOT like an out of the box picture, personally. It's over bright, the colors are torqued up and are innacurate, and these other features such as "advanced contrast control" or "LED control" are garbage. Turn them off completely. Get this TV calibrated - and even then, it isn't 100% perfect. My calibrator worked hours to get the gray scale as accurate as possible. He came very very close, and the TV calibrated very nicely. We have it on the "Custom setting", which Warm 2 as the color option, and brightness set to 51, Picture to 75, and color to 52. We have ALL SETTING OFF except Live Color set to low. Back light is on 6, because I like it a tiny bit brighter. Sharpness needs to be set to 0, it ruins a picture. If I get enough likes on this review I will post my gray scale calibrations.
This all may be true, but the picture is NOT without flaw. Due to being edge lit, you do have a little bit of cloudiness. I have both the 40 inch and the 55 inch model, and it's MUCH lower on the 40 inch. It's only seen slightly at the edges in very dark scenes, but still there. The 55 inch was worse, but still not very evident unless in a dark scene. And even then these sets aren't as bad as others. It's not noticable really on the 40 inch. This however, is the only flaw I see. I am very, very picky when it comes to my TVs and this one delivered.
The 3D is very nice - especially on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and also Dispicable Me. I also like Deep Sea 3D, but at a few scenes it gets blurry. Overall I really like 3D and at first was not a believer. I tested the LG LED and the Samsung as well, and the Sony was my favorite. I also LOVE Samsungs because of it's 10 point gray scale adjustability, but this TV had better picture quality.
Overall, in this catgeory it gets a 9.5.SOUND
Ugh. The sound on these speakers are very tinny. They don't produce bass well at all, and to me are garbage. I use a Samsung 3D receiever with two Pioneer towers up front with a Polk Center channel and Polk rears with a 10 inch 250 watt Polk Sub. I refuse to listen to a TV's speaker, as they sound horrific. I noticed even with HDMI voices tend to sound muffled.Overall, a wonderful set. The only problem is the fact that the backlight at very dark scenes can get annoyingly cloudy, but that's edge lit LED. Picture quality is very detailed, and the gray scale gets 95% accurate when calibrated. Out of the box decent SD settings, but wonerful HD settings. The 3D capabilities on this set are done nicely, and Sony's 3D glasses are among my favorite or comfort. Sound is terrible though - but that was expected.
Enough "helpful" buttons pressed, and I'll post my full calibration settings. (Wont look 100% on your set because each TV is different, but will be closer).
Happy holidays!

TV Ears 10341 2.3 System Wireless Headset System (Blue), with 10 Ear Tips Review

TV Ears 10341 2.3 System Wireless Headset System (Blue), with 10 Ear Tips

Bought two of these for my parents who had trouble hearing the TV even when it was turned to painful volumes for me. When I gradually increased the volume on the headset, each of them smiled and said they could hear it well. It's pretty simple to set up: Plug in the box to an outlet. Connect to the TV with the audio cable to audio out. Turn on headset. Advantage of having two complete units instead of one complete and one headset is that the second one can be used as a charger closer to where the users sit. I think the professional model would only be necessary if you were dealing with big distances--this works great 20 feet from the TV.

X10 POWERMID Remote Control Extender Kit PM5900 Review

X10 POWERMID Remote Control Extender Kit PM5900

MY father recently remodelled his home, and had all the electronics hard wired behind the walls. It's a real clean installaltion, however all the equipment (reciever, cable, DVD, CD etc) are all out of infrared range.
After figuring out he needed a universal remote, as well as needing r/f capability, the search was on for his christmas present. I had a lot of trouble finding a universaal remote that would set up easily for him, has well as have the R/F capability.
In the end, i opted for the infrared remote i really wanted, and the x-10 system. the leapfrog system appeared to have a few bad reviews, and i figured spending the extra money might make the difference (only like $10)
Turned out to be a great decision. I was concerned about the system b/c the front of all the components in the media closet are very close to the door. I purchased 2 extra extender eyes (plug into the back of the R/F recieving unit, and can be stuck right on the I/R eye of your component) but i didn't even need them. One pyramid in the closet ssomehow still controls all the componants w/o even being in direct line of sight of the i/r eye on each piece of equipment.
I would reccomend buying an extra transmitter (the pyramid w/o the antenna) as you might want to be able to control from other places once you see how convenient this is. My dad has 2, one in the living room, and one in the kitchen, if he wants to control music while cooking.he'll probably end up with another for the patio outside during the summer months.
overall, highly reccomended product.

Sony MDRRF970RK 900 MHz Analog RF Wireless Headphone Review

Sony MDRRF970RK 900 MHz Analog RF Wireless Headphone
Average Reviews:

I had this 970RK for 2-3 years and never have the problems as many complained in the 1-star group - noisy, poor sound quality, short battery life, etc. Each is just opposit to me in a positive way.
I have been using it in a single family house (vs. apartment building) and I always connect it to the LINE OUT of a TV, not the earphone jack, so that I can just mute the TV while listening to the headphone.
It works so well for me that I am going to buy a 2nd set of the same thing so that I can always have a one fully charged waiting there when the another I am using runs out of battery (That is why I am here today).
Hope this helps to tell why the reviewers are so wide spliting here - they may use it in different ways or locations.

Tv Wireless Pc To Tv High Res Wireless Pc To Tv Converter Review

Tv Wireless Pc To Tv High Res Wireless Pc To Tv Converter

I have to say this item is just okay, certainly not great. Yes, the setup was pretty easy (even with the poor, hieroglyphic instructions), but the video quality is pretty low. Even though the box says "High Resolution Wireless PC to TV Converter," the video quality is definately NOT high res. It actually less than low res. I put my laptop through this, and was unable to read filenames or any writing on my HD TV with this. I ended up getting a VGA to VGA plug, and just plugging my laptop directly in to my TV (most flatscreens come with a VGA input port nowadays). The concept is good, and mostly works, but the quality needs to improve.

Sony MDR-IF240RK Wireless Headphone System Review

Sony MDR-IF240RK Wireless Headphone System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review is on the Sony MDR-IF240R not MDR-IF240RK, not sure if there's any difference. I needed a wireless headphone for the bedroom because I watch TV over 2 hours every night while my wife sleeps and about 2 hours early in the morning. I've also owned a wireless Sennheiser HDR60 and a wired Panasonic RP-HT970 Vibration Series Headphone. The Sennheiser worked fine, but their rechargeable battery (two included) would only last me about two days. I always had one recharging so I could swap it out, but it was still annoying to have it cut out in the middle of a program. After a year one of the batteries wouldn't hold a charge any more and when I saw how much a replacement battery cost, I decided to buy the Panasonic. Because it was wired, the Panasonic RP-HT970 sounded great, especially the bass effects with DVD's. It was very comfortable and I would still be using it, if I hadn't tripped on the cable and broke it. It had also been an obstacle for my wife when she had to walk across the room.
I decided to go wireless again and bought the Sony MDR-IF240R after reading reviews. I wanted a headphone that used standard batteries and wouldn't need constant replacing. I have cordless phones and a wireless PC network, so I decided having no interference using infrared was better than having the ability to go room to room using other technology. Since I only used it for TV viewing, I was willing to accept decent, if not great, sound quality. This headphone met all my requirements. I put in one standard AAA battery instead of the rechargeable battery that came with it and I haven't had to change it in over two weeks of constant use (4 hours/day).
The headphones are mostly plastic and look a bit cheap. They are fairly comfortable, but if I tilt my head, they will fall off because the foam cushions are flat rather than cupped like the Sennheiser and the headband is rather flimsy. That would be my biggest complaint. Sony should also have provided a longer cable for the transmitter to allow more flexibility in placement. Sound quality is fine for TV viewing, but it can't compare to the quality of a wired headphone like the Panasonic which makes you feel like you're actually in a movie when played on DVD.
I have perfect reception using it at 12 feet and I've walked 45 degrees to the left and right without any loss. If something comes between the headphone and the transmitter, it will cut out, so positioning is very important. You can eliminate the hiss that others have mentioned, if you turn up the volume on the sound source (e.g. TV or Receiver) rather than turning up the volume control on the headphone. On the Sennheiser there was a tuning control, which I had to fiddle with in order to receive a signal, but the Sony doesn't have or need one.
In conclusion, this headphone met all my expectations, the price was reasonable and I would recommend it to others until someone comes out without something that has better sound quality and excellent battery life.
Sound quality - 4 stars (compared to other wireless)
Battery life - 5 stars
Range - 4 stars
Comfort - 4 stars
Fit and finish - 3 stars
Price - 4 stars
