(More customer reviews)Summary: quality of image is very good, and set-up at presentation-time is easy (*initial* set-up was not, see below). But the connection can be fussy: sometimes, for no apparent reason the connection is dropped (even with only 2 metres between computer and receiver. Occasionally parts of the screen will not update properly. All in all satisfactory, but not great.
Detail: I teach at a university, and use a tablet pc hooked to a digital projector in place of a whiteboard/chalkboard. I bought this product to free me up from cables etc. Thus my needs are not for full-motion video etc, but I do need something *very* reliable (there's nothing worse than making an audience wait while you fuss with technical problems in the middle of presentation). This product is fairly good; good enough not to return, but it could be much better.
My computer's resources exceeds Imation's advertised requirements (Motion M1400 1.1 GHZ, 2 gb ram, all drivers up-to-date)
Initial set-up. The documentation suggests using the Imation software that loads directly from the USB dongle when plugged into your laptop. My heart sank when I first tried that: the image was very jerky and slow-to-update (and the image changes only as a pen writes on the screen on my tablet; I don't even want to *think* what video would be like). The documentation also suggests as another option using some third-party software by "DisplayLink" which is supplied: once that gets going it is *much* better. Getting that going was difficult though: a succession of install attempts led me through lots of freeze-ups/blue-screens etc. I reinstalled drivers and after a few hours got it to work. Not a very friendly user experience.
Use: class-room set-up is easy: just plug in the receiver to the projector and the dongle to the computer. The two find each other without trouble, and after 20 seconds or so, you have your image. It's been said that wireless USB is fussy though, and they're right: sometimes (maybe once out of every three presentations) the connection will be dropped, for no apparent reason. The reciever/transmitter can be within 2 metres each motionless, yet down goes the connection. Fortunately the software re-links automatically, so one has time to smile apologetically, roll your eyes, and 30 seconds or so later, things are back up. I'm not happy with that, but I can tolerate it. Occasionally there are some weird screen artifacts: portions of the image won't update properly.
So minus a point for difficult set-up, and minus a point for frequently dropping connections.

They claim to be stereo but theres no way, I don't even think these are good enough to classify as mono. It sounds as if you are listening to someone playing a staticy radio in the next room. No bass what so ever, the only thing you can hear clearly is the constant high pitch whine coming from them even when theres no audio being played... it's still there making your ears bleed. I went too cheep I guess, I just really didn't imagine them being this bad, I suppose you get what you pay for but these aren't even usable, don't waste your money even if it's not that much. Your ears will thank you for not subjecting them to this. Also the tower for some reason didn't come with a power cord and needed batteries, a huge pointless waste just like this product.

(More customer reviews)Firstly, let me state up front my one major gripe about this DVD player: the documentation is not very spectacular, especially the documentation regarding the installation. There is an included wiring diagram (12V+/-, Dome Light, RCAs for input/output, etc.) but no template for cutting the headliner, no pictures describing how to install, etc. I recognize that this sort of thing is probably not made with the do-it-yourself-er in mind, but some rudimentary instructions would have been appreciated so I wouldn't have had to make it up as I went along!
Having said that, however, the thing works pretty darn well. The DVD player itself is integrated into the back of the LCD screen and works similarly to a DVD player in a computer - pop open the lid and press the DVD down onto the spindle locking it in place, then close the lid. The DVD motor is fairly quiet and the disk loads quickly. The screen opens to about 90° and rotates around the central metal post so that it can be aimed at the driver or passenger... a nice feature when you need to adjust something on the screen and your backseat children are too little to use the remote.
The FM transmitter has a small range of frequencies that can used to interface directly with your car's FM tuner, but the frequencies don't extend the full range of the FM spectrum, so it's conceivable that you might not be able to find a station in your area that is sufficiently devoid of FM signal; this means that the FM transmitter might not work spectacularly in your area because of interference with other stations. If you turn the FM transmitter off, you have the option of playing the sound through the small speakers included in the unit that lie directly underneath the hollow that the folded screen occupies. These speakers are of average quality and low volume, so they probably will not be spectacularly functional during noisy highway driving. There is an RCA line-out that can be used to interface with an existing input on the car's stereo, if one happens to be present.
The included USB port seems to work quite well - choosing this input brings up a file-browser menu that allows you to select the file that you wish to view. I tested the functionality with two movies that were encoded using the XVID (open-source DivX-equivalent) codec and the movies played extremely well.
The build quality feels a little cheap, but one must remember that this is a budget model. The good news is that the USB functionality helps to guarantee that player will continue to be useful in the event that the DVD drive ceases to work.

(More customer reviews)i was actually dumb enough to install two of these. the first one i purchased on amazon. it was professionally installed. it worked for about an hour. then the sound works but no picture. just a blue screen. amazon like always was great with the replacement. they emailed me a return label for the old dvd player and overnighted a new one and i got it the next day. i had the old one removed and the new one installed at the same time. this one does not work either. the second one i got has a different problem. it works for about 30 minutes and then powers off. it does turn back on, on its own. it restarts the dvd were it left off. but then only plays for about 2 minutes at a time after that and powers off and on. i have spent a lot of money on install on these. ugh!! i just want a dvd for the kids in the van to keep them happy.

We purchased the L-Com 17 db backfire antennas and the signal is now solid at up to 500 feet (the maximum distance we have tested). The system is not broadcast quality but works great for our application (sending meeting video from one location to another). Mount the units/antennas as high as practical with a clear line of sight between them to avoid path interference problems. If you use separate antennas, keep the feed line as short as possible (we used two feet).

(More customer reviews)I just received the Air SynchHD yesterday so my experience is somewhat limited, but so far it is working great. I bought this to use to watch TV out by the pool on game day and to eliminate the long HDMI cable that I had been dragging back and forth each weekend and hanging out a window. So far I have tested it outside and the picture is as clear as it was when the HDTV was connected by HDMI directly to the cable box. My setup outside is definitely pushing the limits of the 33 foot NLOS so it took some time to find a placement of the receiver that would allow it to connect to the transmitter. But once connected, I let it run for about four hours and never lost the signal. While I bought this for game day outside I found that I can also use it during the weekdays when we are not outside to eliminate a second cable box in our exercise room. That setup puts the receiver about 20 feet from the transmitter and works perfectly as well. We are going to end up saving over $17 a month on our cable bill by eliminating two cable boxes (the one we had designated for outside and the one in the exercise room).
One possible option to consider: The Air SynchHD only has one HDMI-in port but I have hooked it up with a IO Gear HDMI smart switch and can use it with our cable box, PS3 and Blu-Ray player. The smart switch just sends the signal for whichever one is on to the transmitter. So, we can do movies, watch cable or play games outside (or in our exercise room). I definitely recommend this setup for anyone who wants to be able to use more than one HD device with the transmitter. It is much easier than disconnecting and reconnecting cables every time you want to switch from cable box to blu-ray, etc.. Oh, and the HDMI output feature is great as well to allow you to use this device with a cable box that is also connected to another HDTV. I run the output HDMI cable to our Onkyo receiver. The receiver has a multi-room feature that feeds our outdoor speakers so we can watch HDTV in full stereo sound outside.
If I experience any problems after further use I will update this review. But, I have to admit that so far this product has worked great.
